Choosing The Best Food Processor
One of the most important and most useful appliances in your kitchen is your food processor. Whether you are blending juices, making sauces or chopping vegetables you will need a good food processor to make your life easier in the kitchen. You need to look for quality and durability as your search for the best food processor for your needs.
Cuisinart Pro Custom 11-Cup Food Processor
One of the first things that you want to look for when buying a food processor is motor strength. In other words, how strong is the motor and is it powerful enough to chop the firmest of vegetables or need the stiffest bread dough? An under-powered machine will cause you untold frustrations and you will find that small motors tend to burn out quickly.
We love the 625 watt motor that comes with this Cuisinart (model number DLC-8SY). It’s plenty powerful to handle any chopping, kneading or mixing job while staying relatively quiet. We also love the 11 cup work bowl that is standard with this unit. It’s large enough to handle just about any kitchen job that you may attempt and a small bowl just creates frustration. Nothing is more frustrating than having a recipe that is too large for the bowl.
The 11-cup work bowl and extra-large feed tube are perfectly made for slicing whole fruits and vegetables and powerful enough to knead bread easily. The on/off and pulse button are well placed and work great, guaranteeing a perfectly chopped, mixed or kneaded end result.
Included in this package are three slicing/shredding discs, a new chopping blade, and a spatula. The discs are a thin shredding disc, a medium shredding disc and a chopping/mixing blade. All of these attachments are ideal for making dough, slicing vegetables, shredding cheese, mincing garlic and herbs, mixing batters and emulsifying liquids. The very large feed tube is great for safely putting items into the processor and it is big enough to allow large chunks of fruits and vegetables to be sent down it for chopping.
Practical And Easy To Clean
The entire unit and attachments are very easy to clean and the bowl and blades can be put into the dishwasher. The spatula is a nice addition and it fits perfectly in the bowl, allowing you to easily scrape the sides clean. A useful dough blade is available (Click Here) for around $11 and I really like the disc holder (Click Here), it safely and conveniently holds all of your discs in one place.
The unit is well made and sturdy, weighing in around 16 pounds. Cuisinart has a well earned reputation for quality and durability and this processor is no exception. While the base casing is not stainless steel it is a rugged plastic and should last a long time. The attachments are also well made and appear to be durable. This is a great kitchen appliance that you will be able to use for many years.
There are a few negatives with this food processor. As I mentioned to motor casing is plastic, not stainless steel. It also is available in only white or brushed chrome but both colors are neutral enough to work with any kitchen decor. It would be nice to have the dough blade included but the price of this package is so reasonable that it doesn’t deter from the value.
Overall this is our favorite food processor. Great price, excellent value and a very well made appliance.
